Repairs Policy

Free Repairs Policy

JV Leather

At JV Leather, every piece we make is built to last — but leather is a living material, and life happens to it. That's why every product purchased from JV Leather comes with free repairs, for as long as we're able to fix it. This page explains how the policy works, so you know exactly what to expect.

What's Covered

We will repair, free of charge, any JV Leather product that has developed damage or wear through normal use — stitching that has come loose, hardware that has failed, edges that have worn down, and similar issues tied to the craftsmanship of the piece.

The repair labour itself is always free. You are only ever responsible for getting the item to us and back again (see Shipping below).

What's Not Covered

This policy is a repair service, not a replacement guarantee. We reserve the right to assess each item individually, and the following are generally not covered under free repairs:

  • Damage from misuse, accidents, or neglect (e.g. cutting, burning, water damage, exposure to chemicals)
  • Cosmetic changes from normal ageing of leather, such as patina — this is part of leather's character, not a fault
  • Items that have been altered or repaired by a third party
  • Loss of the item, or damage so severe the piece cannot reasonably be restored

If we assess an item and find the damage falls outside this policy, we'll always let you know and give you a quote before doing any paid work — we won't just charge you without asking first.

Shipping

Getting your item to us and back can work in a few different ways—choose whichever suits you best:

  • You cover shipping to us and back. This is the only cost involved in a free repair—just get in touch with us first and we'll arrange it with you.
  • Drop-off in Potchefstroom is available by prior arrangement only, at our workshop. This isn't our preferred method, and we ask that you contact us first to schedule a time—please don't arrive without arranging it in advance, as we won't always be available to receive items on the spot.
  • Arranged pickup is also possible in some cases—just get in touch and we'll see what we can work out.

Once your repair is complete, we'll ship it back to the address you provide (or arrange a pickup, where applicable) and let you know the return shipping cost, if any, before sending.

How to Request a Repair

To arrange a repair, please contact us directly—email or message us with:

  • A description or photo of the issue
  • Whether you'd like to ship the item to us, or arrange a drop-off in Potchefstroom

We'll confirm the repair is covered and, if you're shipping it, send you an accurate shipping cost based on size, weight, and location before you send anything (we recommend PUDO, as it's usually the cheapest option). If you'd prefer to drop the item off, we'll arrange a suitable time with you.

No proof of purchase is required, though it is recommended, as it can help us process your repair a little faster.

Once we've received your item, we'll carry out the repair and send it back to you as soon as we can. Please make sure it's well-packaged to avoid further damage in transit.

Fair Use

This policy is offered in good faith to stand behind the quality of our work, and we ask that it's used the same way. There is no limit to the number of free repairs a single product can receive — we want your piece to last for years to come. That said, we reserve the right to decline a repair or adjust this policy where we believe it's being used outside its intended spirit — for example, repeated damage from the same avoidable cause, or requests unrelated to the original product.

If you're ever unsure whether something is covered, just reach out — we're happy to talk it through.
